This website contains information about the department's graduate and undergraduate programs, the members of the department, philosophy courses, departmental awards, and colloquia and lectures sponsored or co-sponsored by the department. It also provides the department’s newsletter and links to pertinent sites. The department is philosophically diverse. Its faculty's research reflects the richness of the contemporary philosophical scene with faculty specializing in the history of philosophy, analytic, continental, feminist, non-western, postcolonial, and critical race philosophy. The department emphasizes excellence in teaching and many of the faculty have won Distinguished Teaching Awards. The Philosophy department at Binghamton University offers a specialized graduate program in Social, Political, Ethical and Legal Philosophy (SPEL) leading to an MA or a PhD, a Philosophy undergraduate major, and a five years combined degree that brings together the Philosophy major and the SPEL MA. The Department sponsors the undergraduate program in Philosophy, Politics, and Law (PPL and the five years combined degree in PPL and SPEL. The Philosophy department also cooperates with the Comparative Literature Department, which offers a unique Ph.D. specialization in Philosophy, Literature, and Theory of Criticism. |
